TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Without injured players pitching ace Jennifer White and starting right fielder Misty Molin, one of the team leaders in hits, RBIs and doubles, the No. 15 Florida State softball team split its doubleheader with the Florida Gators this evening at Lady Seminole Field. After falling 8-3 in game one, the team rebounded for a 5-3 win in game two. FSU improves to 43-14 overall while Florida goes to 32-15 on the year.
After going ahead 3-1 after the first inning, Florida State committed a season-high seven errors in game one and the Gators took advantage of the FSU mistakes. Florida scored five runs off of four hits and two Seminole errors to break things open in the second inning. The two teams combined for 25 hits.
In the second game, Florida State number two pitcher Stacy Venable held the Gators to just six hits while striking out five batters. FSU belted 11 hits in the contest and improved defensively, committing just one error.
The Tribe will host Florida A&M on Friday in a single game at 6 p.m.
