GAINESVILLE, Fla. -The Florida State softball team split a double-header with the Florida Gators tonight at the Florida Softball Complex in Gainesville. The Gators won the first game 2-0 but the Lady Seminoles held on to the second game to win 6-4. The Florida Gators scored the only runs of game one in the fourth inning off a two run single from Michelle Parks. Danielle Cox led the effort, going 2-3 from the plate and stealing one base. Christy Cerecedes, Corrie Williams, and Dana Bailey each added a hit and Jen White (12-14) took the loss for the pitching squad, striking out two batters and walking two. Kimmy Carter started the scoring in the second game with a single to left field, bringing in Cox; Carter was then walked in for the second run of the inning. The Gators then scored their first run in the first inning off a double and their second run off a sacrifice hit. Jesse McGregor brought in Tami Post in the second inning and Cerecedes and Williams both brought in a run in the fourth inning. UF scored their third run in the fifth inning and scored one in the seventh but held off the Gators to win the game 6-4. Carter was perfect from the plate in game two, including a triple and an RBI. Cox and Williams were both 2-4 and each added a stolen base. Leslie Malerich got the win (10-7), striking out five batters and walking only one. Stacy Venable also struck out one batter and gave up only one run. The Lady Seminoles are 29-21-1 as the Gators go to 17-20. FSU will go on the road this weekend to play a doubleheader against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday and will participate in the Tar Heel Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
