TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Andi Lyons hit her first homerun as a Seminole tonight as the Florida State softball team beat the FAMU Rattlerettes 2-1 at the FAMU Softball complex in Tallahassee. The Lady Seminoles tied the series at 1-1 after losing to FAMU in February, 3-2.
"We had an overall good game tonight," Head Coach Dr. JoAnne Graf said. "We still aren't hitting the ball like we need to but we're playing more like a team and that makes a big difference."
FAMU jumped out to an early lead in the second inning off a Florida State error but the Lady Seminoles answered in the fourth inning. Lyons started the hitting and scoring for FSU tonight with her solo homerun over the center field fence to tie the score 1-1. Danielle Cox then hit in Kimmy Carter in the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt to clinch the win for the Lady Seminoles. Lyons was 1-3 from the plate as Dana Bailey went 1-2 with a stolen base as Christy Cerecedes added a stolen base. Jen White received the win and complete game, improving her record to 11-12, striking out seven batters and allowing only three hits.
FSU improves to 25-19-1 as FAMU drops to 19-24. The Lady Seminoles will travel to Georgia this weekend for a double-header with ACC rival Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Saturday, April 3 beginning at 1:00pm. FSU will then head to Athens for a 1:00pm start with the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, April 3.
