Softball Beats Florida A&M in Extra Innings

Feb. 20, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The No. 21-ranked Florida State softball team improved to 10-1 on the season with a 4-2, nine-inning victory over crosstown rival Florida A&M this evening. FAMU falls to an even 7-7 on the season.

The Rattlerettes outhit the Lady Seminoles 11-7, thanks to Kim Browning's 3-for-4 effort, but left 12 batters stranded on the basepaths. Florida State's Jesse McGregor went 2-for-4 and scored the winning run off of a Tami Post single in the ninth inning. There was an error on the play, allowing Danielle Cox to score, giving FSU the two-run advantage. In the FAMU ninth, ShaKaye Peters fouled out to the catcher to end the game, with two players on base, including Browning, who had been intentionally walked.

Freshman ace Jennifer White came in relief to earn the victory, improving her record to 5-1. FAMU's Amber Alford went the distance. She is now 7-2.

The two clubs will square off again on Monday in a 6 p.m. contest at Lady Seminole Field.
