SOMERSET, N.J. (seminoles.com) - Former Seminole All-American and four-time All-ACC honoree Amanda DaCosta will join Sky Blue FC of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league for the 2012 season. The announcement came on Tuesday, December 20 just days after DaCosta earned her bachelor's degree in sports management and a minor in business from Florida State University.
DaCosta arrives in New Jersey with Sky Blue FC after spending her rookie WPS campaign in 2011 with magicJack, the Boca Raton, Fla., based team.
"Amanda is a really good playmaker who we have had our eyes on since she played for Quickstrike," said Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra. "She is a versatile player who can play attacking midfield but also slide out wide. We see her being very effective for us in either role over the course of the 2012 season."
Before joining the professional ranks, the Katonah, N.Y., native had one of the most prolific college careers in Florida State history. DaCosta was a two-time All-American and is the only Seminole to earn All-ACC accolades all four years in Tallahassee.
DaCosta appeared in 96 games over four years tallying 58 points on 17 goals and 24 assists. She earned National Freshman of the Year accolades from Soccer Buzz in 2007 after leading the Seminoles to the national championship game for the first time in school history. In 2011, DaCosta was a member of the Seminoles.com All-Access broadcast crew serving as the color analyst for all web streamed home matches while completing her undergraduate degree.
During her playing career, DaCosta has spent time with Quickstrike FC, formerly a USL W-League club and Sky Blue FC affiliate which was based out of Hudson Valley, New York.
Sky Blue FC finished the 2011 season with 19 points and a record of 5-9-4, missing out on a berth to the playoffs after losing the tiebreaker with Boston.
NOTE: All player signings are subject to league approval before they are official.
