TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State Women's Soccer program will be well represented as the Under-20 Women's World Cup gets underway in Chile on Wednesday. The Seminoles have two student-athletes playing for their country in junior Becky Edwards (United States) and red-shirt sophomore Erin McNulty (Canada).
The United States opens World Cup competition against France on Wednesday, November 19 at 1:00 EST, while Canada will begin play on Thursday, November 20 at 2:00 EST against Japan.
Sixteen teams will compete for the U-20 world title in 2008. Those teams include: Asia: China, Japan, North Korea; Africa: Congo DR, Nigeria; Europe: England, France, Germany, Norway; CONCACAF: Canada, USA, Mexico; Oceania: New Zealand; South America: Brazil, Argentina; Host: Chile.
The 16-team field has been divided into four groups of four. The United States is playing in Group B with France, China and Argentina. Canada will compete in Group C with Japan, Congo and Germany.
The top two teams in each group will advance to Stage 2 of the championship which will consist of a single-elimination, bracket play competition. The gold medal match will be played on December 7 at 4:30 EST in Santiago, Chile.
