TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Come celebrate Halloween at the Seminole Soccer Complex Thursday night when No. 3 Florida State (14-1-3, 9-1-2 ACC) closes out the regular season against No. 10 Notre Dame (11-5-1, 7-4-1 ACC) at 8 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to dress-up for the game and participate in a costume contest, while Trick-or-Treating will take place at the Soccer Complex beginning one hour before the match starts.
FSU and Notre Dame will square-off for the sixth time in series history and first as conference foes on Thursday night. All five previous meetings have come in the NCAA Tournament. The two schools met in the postseason four years in a row with two meetings in the College Cup (2006 & 2007) and two quarterfinal showdowns (2008 & 2009).
The Noles and Irish met last year in Tallahassee with a trip to the College Cup on the line. A goal by Tiffany McCarty in the 53rd minute was the difference as FSU held on for the 1-0 victory. Florida State outshot Notre Dame 15-14, while Wys made all six saves in 90 minutes of play. FSU's victory snapped ND's two-game winning streak in the series, while it marked the first win for the Noles over the Irish in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles are 8-9-1 in closing out the regular season all-time. FSU was riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) in regular season finales before falling to Miami, 1-0, in Coral Gables last year.
With victories over Syracuse and Pittsburgh earlier this year, Florida State improved to 5-7-0 when facing a team for the first time as an ACC opponent.
Notre Dame is the third straight ranked opponent FSU will face and eighth overall this year. The Noles are 5-1-1 against ranked foes and 3-1-1 against teams ranked in the top 10.
Florida State is 2-2-0 all-time when playing on Halloween including a 0-1-0 mark at home. The last time the Seminoles played on Halloween was at Boston College in 2010 - a 1-0 victory for FSU. Florida State's lone home match on Halloween occurred in 1999 as the Noles fell to Maryland 1-0. All four previous matches on Halloween have resulted in a 1-0 decision.
Thursday night's game will be broadcast live on the Regional Sports Network and on Fox Sports Florida in the state of Florida. Fans are encouraged to check their local listings for the game broadcast in their area. The game will also air live on ESPN3.
Live stats for the match will be available via gametracker. As always, Seminole fans can follow the Noles on twitter @FSU_Soccer and remember to like the Seminoles on Facebook (www.facebook.com/FSUSoccer) and on Instagram (NoleSoccer).
