TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State soccer team is `Painting the Plex Pink' for Breast Cancer Awareness on Thursday, October 16 when the Seminoles square-off against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at 7:00 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the authentic gear as all 22 game jerseys will be auctioned off online at Seminoles.com beginning Tuesday, October 14 and ending Tuesday, October 21.
The first 100 fans who donate 10 dollars or more will receive a Pink Seminole Soccer t-shirt. There will also be many other chances to donate and win prizes such as additional Nike pink jerseys and tickets to the FSU vs. Florida football game on November 29th.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her older sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. It is one of the largest private sources of funding in the U.S. dedicated solely to breast cancer research and since its inception 20 years ago, the foundation has raised over $600 million, providing much needed funding for groundbreaking breast cancer research and innovative projects in the areas of breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment.
"Twenty years ago a woman diagnosed with breast cancer had a 78% survival rate, but today, thanks to the advances of science and technology, education and easier access to mammogram screenings, if the cancer is detected early enough there is now a 98% survival rate," said Theresa Martin, Executive Director of the North Florida Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. "Many of these advances from research to outreach programs are funded by the monies raised by volunteers and the teams participating in this event.
"For every $100 raised, The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation can fund another mammogram in our area for women that are uninsured or underinsured. Our goal is to make sure any women in need of a screening has access to one. We can do that thanks to everyone that donates to our organization."
