TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's Kelsey Wys garnered ACC Player of the Week honors after leading the Seminoles to back-to-back shutout victories over No. 5 North Carolina and NC State this past week. She was also honored on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
The Coral Springs, Fla., native played all 90 minutes in both matches finishing with 11 saves including a season-high nine in FSU's win over North Carolina. The win over the Tar Heels was FSU's third in a row becoming just the third school to perform such a feat against UNC in the program's storied history. Florida State's five all-time wins over North Carolina are the second most of any other school in Tar Heel history.
On Sunday, NC State registered three shots with two going on goal. Wys' biggest save of the afternoon came on a one-on-one situation midway through the second half with the game still deadlocked at zero. Wys made an outstanding diving save to keep the game scoreless.
Of the 20 shots faced over the two games, Wys made 11 total saves. The senior goalkeeper's play between the posts helped move the Seminoles into sole possession of first place in the ACC standings with 10 points. Wys also upped her league leading shutout total to seven on the year.
The weekly honor for Wys is the third of her career and first in 2013. She won the award twice in 2012 (August 28 & September 18).
Wys and the nationally ranked Seminole Soccer program are back in action this week with a home match against Miami on Thursday, September 26 and then a road match at Clemson on Sunday, September 29.
