Game Notes - Week 3 vs Florida & College of Charleston

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Top ranked Florida State (2-0-0) opens the home portion of its 2012 schedule this weekend as the Seminoles host No. 22 Florida (1-1-1) and the College of Charleston (0-2-0) on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

FSU has won eight straight home openers and is a perfect 7-0 under head coach Mark Krikorian. The Seminoles boast an all-time record of 14-2-1 in home openers while outscoring the opposition 66-16 during that span including a streak of five straight shutouts.

Florida State has hosted Florida for its home opener on one prior occasion as the Seminoles defeated the Gators 3-2 in 2000. Friday's match marks the eighth time that Florida State will open its home schedule against a team from the state of Florida. The Seminoles are 6-1-0 against schools from the Sunshine State with their only loss coming against Miami (3-0) in 1999.

Against the Gators, FSU has won eight of the last 14 games in the series, while both teams have split the last eight regular season meetings. The last six matches have been decided by one goal including two of the last three in overtime.

Lately, neither school has been able to take advantage of playing at home as the last home team to successfully defend their home turf was Florida in 2007. The last time the Seminoles defeated the Gators in Tallahassee was 2006 (1-0) in front of a school record crowd of 4,582. With that said, the road team has held the upper hand in the series winning seven of the last nine games.

Last year in Gainesville, Tiffany McCarty led the Seminoles in a back and forth match with five points on two goals and an assist as she broke a 2-2 tie finding the back of the net in the 72nd minute to give FSU the 3-2 victory.

Since the arrival of head coach Mark Krikorian in 2005, FSU is 4-3-0 against UF posting a series-best two wins in a row in 2005 and 2006. Under Krikorian, FSU is 52-30-8 against ranked foes all-time and 1-0-0 in 2012.

Friday's match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. and will air live over the internet on ESPN3.com. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to ensure getting a good seat for the match.

On Sunday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m., Florida State welcomes College of Charleston to Tallahassee as the two schools are meeting for the first time.

The Cougars are the second of four first time opponents the Seminoles will face in 2012. FSU is 1-0-0 against first time opponents this year as they defeated Minnesota, 3-2, on the road to open the season.

The match against the College of Charleston marks the first meeting against the Cougars but the ninth against a current member of the Southern Conference. Florida State is 8-3 all-time against SoCon schools and 7-1 at home. The last SoCon team FSU faced was Samford last year in the first round of the NCAA Tournament - a 2-0 victory for the `Noles in Tallahassee.

Admission to all home soccer matches is free of charge.

Live stats for both matches will be available via gametracker, while fans can always receive in-game updates on Twitter @FSU_Soccer. Also, do not forget to like the Seminole Soccer team on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FSUSoccer.
