TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the first time in six years, the Florida State Women's Soccer team is back on top. The Seminoles took over the top spot in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top 25 poll released Tuesday afternoon.

Florida State is off to a 2-0-0 start in 2012 as both victories have come on the road including a 1-0 shutout win over No. 9 UCF.

"We are happy to earn the accomplishment and to be ranked No. 1 at this point in the season is nice," said head coach Mark Krikorian. "To be honest we don't talk about where we are ranked at any point during the year. We are only concerned with where we are ranked in the last poll of the season. Our goal is to get back to the College Cup and to give ourselves a shot to win a national championship."

The Seminoles received 24 of a possible 33 first place votes to claim the No. 1 ranking in the NSCAA poll for the first time in school history. The last time Florida State was ranked No. 1 was in 2006 by Soccer America as they held the ranking for four consecutive weeks. That year, the Seminoles opened the season defeating defending national champion Portland, 2-1, in Tallahassee. Soccer America rewarded the `Noles for their accomplishment the very next week (August 27) by moving FSU to the No. 1 spot in the polls.

"I think the early polls are a reflection of your preseason ranking and the season you had a year ago," added Krikorian. "But we know that with all the upsets going on all over the country that there are a lot of good programs out there and if you don't show up with your `A-game' you're probably going to be disappointed at the end of the match."

Florida State will bring its No. 1 ranking to the pitch this Friday, August 31 in the home opener against intra-state rival and No. 22 ranked Florida (1-1-1). Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., while the action will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com.

Live stats will be available via gametracker, while fans can always receive in-game updates on Twitter @FSU_Soccer. Also, do not forget to like the Seminole Soccer team on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FSUSoccer.
