TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State redshirt junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wys has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer player of the week following her role in the Seminoles shutout at No. 9/10 UCF.
Wys helped FSU (2-0-0) remain undefeated on the year by making four saves in 90 minutes of a 1-0 shutout against the Knights last Friday. She made two saves in each half, while her final two came in the last eight minutes of the match.
UCF tried to equalize in the 82nd on a long range shot, but the Coral Springs, Fla., native made an outstanding save tipping the ball over the crossbar and out of play. The second shot for the Knights came two minutes later off a corner kick but Wys was there for the save.
The shutout was her first of the season and 21st of her career, moving her within ½ a shutout of becoming the all-time leader in that category in Florida State history.
This is Wys' first career ACC Player of the Week nod.
Wys and the Seminoles return to action this weekend with their first two home matches of the season as Florida State hosts Florida and the College of Charleston on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Admission is free for all Seminole Soccer home matches.
