July 30, 2013

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State soccer is just over a week away from opening its preseason workouts in preparation for the 2013 campaign and the Seminoles are already making headlines.

Three Seminoles were named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Women's Best XI teams. Senior defender Kassey Kallman was recognized on the first team, while senior goalkeeper Kelsey Wys landed second team honors. Forward Anna McClung was named to the Best XI Freshman Team.

Kallman and Wys were key components to the Seminole defense that set school records for shutouts (17), goals against average (0.62) and fewest goals allowed in ACC play (4) last year. The Seminole defense went on to finish the season ranked in the top 40 nationally in shutouts percentage (2nd), GAA (12th) and save percentage (36th). Kallman enters her senior season with 66 career starts and 22 points on eight goals and six assists. She has been a fixture in the Seminole backline since 2010. Wys has 68 career starts under her belt and has posted a record of 51-15-2 with 30 shutouts and a GAA of 0.82 as the Seminole goalkeeper. Both have led Florida State to back-to-back College Cup appearances, an ACC title in 2011 and a conference regular season championship in 2012.

McClung comes to Florida State as a three year letterwinner and three-time first team All-State honoree at Gate City High School. The freshman forward led the nation in goals with 88 in 2012. She holds the Virginia high school record for career goals (215), career points (462) and career hat tricks (33). McClung was named a NSCAA High School All-American as a junior in 2012 and is a two-time Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year (2011 & 2012). She graduated from high school early and enrolled at Florida State in January of 2013 for the spring semester.

Florida State opens the 2013 season at home against Oregon State on Friday, August 23. Admission to every home game inside the Seminole Soccer Complex is free of charge.
