Florida State's Dagny Brynjarsdottir is a junior midfielder on the Seminole women's soccer team. Throughout the spring semester, Dagny will provide fans with an in depth look into the world of soccer both at Florida State and at the national level through her experiences with the Full Icelandic National Team. We hope you enjoy the `Dagny Diaries!'

Hey everyone!

I'm finally back in Tallahassee as I was away for 16 days playing two qualification games for the World Cup with the Icelandic National Team. We beat Israel 1-0 on April 5th as I told you in my last blog.

Last week, we played our second game against Malta. We had four training sessions in Malta, the first one on grass, but the other three were on a turf field. The turf field was a little different for me than the other players on the national team, because here at Florida State we play on a grass field all year along. I wasn't really used to the turf so those three training sessions were pretty necessary for me.

We played our second game on April 10th at 2 p.m. local time. We had a walk outside in the morning to keep our legs moving, but at the same time it was nice to get out of the hotel and see a little bit of Malta. As a college student, most of my off time goes to studying to keep up with all my school work. It was a nice day in Malta, 75 degrees Fahrenheit with clear sky. Yes, it was pretty warm for us from Iceland.

We started pretty well and scored our first goal in the second minute. The game ended 8-0 for us. I scored the fourth goal of the game with a header from a free kick and then the eighth goal in extra time with a header again, but this time off a corner kick. One of my teammates had her first career hat trick in the game, which was super nice!

We finished our mission for those two games. We got six points, which puts us in second place in our group. Now we have nine points in four games. Switzerland is number one in our group right now as they have 16 points in six games. We lost against them, 2-0, at home in September last year, but we will play them again in Switzerland on May 8th. That will be a big game for us as we need to win to keep our dream alive of playing in the World Cup in 2015.

I'm happy to be back in Tallahassee and with the Florida State soccer team. We only have one more week of practice and then play our final game of the semester on Friday. I'm so excited, this will be my first and last game with the team this spring, and I cannot wait to play with my girls.

The next couple of days for me will be wrapping up my classes, making up two tests that I missed while I was away and then preparing for my finals, which are in less than two weeks. This semester has gone by so fast. I cannot believe my last spring semester is almost over! Of course I will have to keep up with my training too over the next two weeks to make sure I will be able to do my best in the big game against Switzerland on May 8th.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, I hope you enjoyed it!
