Throughout the spring semester, Dagny will provide fans with an in depth look into the world of soccer both at Florida State and at the national level through her experiences with the Full Icelandic National Team. We hope you enjoy the `Dagny Diaries!'

Good afternoon everyone!

Last week was pretty busy for me because my dad came into town for a week. It is always nice getting friends and family members to visit Tallahassee, but it can be pretty hard sometimes to fit them into my schedule as a student-athlete.

When Icelanders think about Florida they think about 80+ degrees, clear skies, and beaches with the sun shining all the time. I have been trying to explain to them that is not the case all the time, and not at all in January and February especially here in Tallahassee. My dad was visiting for his fourth time, but this was his first visit in February and I think his weather expectations were way too high! He expected it to be much warmer.

As I said earlier, it can be pretty hard for me as a student-athlete to change my schedule. There never seems to be enough hours in a day for me when I am going to school and then training once or twice a day. I had two tests while my dad was here so I had to study a lot in the beginning of his visit. My dad brought me some Icelandic food and candy and he cooked a homemade meal for me. And of course, we even found time to shop a little. Everything here is so much cheaper than it is in Iceland, so we stocked up on a few more things than we normally do when we are back home.

Then we decided to spend our weekend together in Destin, which was really nice. It was so nice to go somewhere where I did not have to do any homework and I could just hang out with my dad and relax. We stayed at a hotel next to the beach so of course we had to lay by the pool for a few hours and then we had a walk by the beach. I recommend all of you to visit Destin because it is really beautiful over there.

For many international students, it can be really hard for them staying in a different country and not seeing their families all the time, but my situation is a little different. As a national team player, I am able to go home much more than some of my teammates, even though they are from the U.S. The Icelandic National Team usually plays around 12 games every year so I get called home a few times. If we have away games, I will still go home, stay there for one to two days and then travel with the national team. I will be going home to represent my country on February 27th. That will be eight weeks since I was home last, which is not a very long time being away from home, but I am not going to complain as it is always great to see my family and friends.

My teammates here at Florida State that live out of state do not usually go home until spring break and that is 10 weeks since they were last home. Even though it is only a two-week difference, it matters a lot. It is an honor that I am able to represent my country, and at the same time I am very thankful and happy, that I am able to go home so often to see my family and friends, even if it is only for one or two days. Many people from home ask me if I ever get homesick while I am staying here in Tallahassee. To be honest, with all the training, school work and traveling I do, I do not really have time to get home sick or even think about it.

I am off to Iceland next week and staying there for two days, before traveling with the national team to Portugal. We are playing in the Algarve Cup were we will play four games. I am really excited to share my experiences with you all while I am in Portugal.

Thanks for taking time to read my blog, until next time....
