Howard Gray joined the Florida State strength and speed staff in December of 2012 and is responsible for the design and implementation of the strength and speed programs for the men's and women's swimming & diving teams and women's soccer.

Originally from Devon, England, Gray has spent eight of the last 10 years studying, playing, and coaching in the U.S. He graduated from the University of Maine at Machias in 2006 where he was a two-sport athlete and a student assistant coach for the women's soccer team.

In 2008, Gray received his master's degree in exercise physiology and performance from East Tennessee State University where he was an assistant men's soccer coach while also working in the sport science laboratory for athletic advancement.

Following his graduate education, Gray interned as a strength and conditioning coach at Reading Football Club before moving on to a full-time position at Crystal Palace Football Club, both of the English Championship League. Prior to arriving at Florida State, Gray served as a coaching manager for the Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education at ETSU as well as a sport scientist for the men's soccer team. He is currently completing the final requirements for his PhD in sport physiology and performance with his research focus pertaining to on-field monitoring of soccer players.

Gray is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA).
