Nov. 1, 2004

Whitney Wright, a second freshman in the Seminoles' starting lineup, closed the Furman University Tournament with a career-low round of 72 and finished in a tie for 38th place in the individual standings with a career-low 225 total. She improved in each round during the event with a 79 in round one, a 74 in round two and a 72 in round three. Wright established career-bests for single-round score (72), 36-hole score (153), three-round event score (225) and finish (tied for 38th). She visited with seminoles.com before playing in the ACC/SEC Challenge.

How are you preparing for ACC/SEC Challenge? "I am mentally preparing myself just to make pars, because pars beat a lot of people. I am going to take one shot at a time; try to two putt and when I have a chance to make birdies make them. I am going to be aggressive and not timid."

Did you feel any pressure going into the tournament? Yes, I have put pressure on myself to do well in the ACC/SEC Challenge. I felt a lot of pressure because I haven't been playing well and I feel like I have let my coach and my teammates down in recent tournaments. It is my time to step up to the plate and let Coach Dillman know that I am here to play golf.

Having played well in the last tournament, is there ever any fear that you might not perform as well is the next? "No fear; once I got a little bit of confidence I'm never going back to the way I played."

You're in the final round of a major championship. Who do you hope to be paired with and why? "I would like to be paired with Sergio Garcia, because I want to marry him."

How has your performance in last weeks tournament impacted the way you feel about your game? "I feel pretty good about my game, I am pretty confident about it right now. I am hitting my irons really well right now. With my driver I missed maybe two fairways during the Lady Paladin Invitational, so I feel pretty confident."

What is the deal with your new red shoes? "Coach made a deal with us that we had to shoot a 72 or below to get the red shoes. I did it in the third round of the Furman Tournament on the last hole. I was doing the "chop" across the green and pointing at the shoes, because that was the highlight of my weekend. Now I can be like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz."
