Seminoles Travel To Play in Schooner Fall Classic

Schooner Fall Classic Notes
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) -
The Florida State women's golf team, which has finished in the top six in the team standings in both of its first two events of the fall season, travels to play in the Inaugural Schooner Classic at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., Oct. 5-7, 2013. The tournament is one of the top events of the fall season in women's golf with seven of the top 25 nationally ranked teams competing in the 54-hole event. All proceeds from the Schooner Fall Classic and the Schooner Fall Classic College-Am (Oct. 4) will go directly to the Toby Keith Foundation and will benefit the OK Kids Korral, a soon-to-be completed facility at the OU Medical Center. The OK Kids Korral exists to assist children battling cancer and provides a place for family members to stay, free of charge, while their children are receiving treatment. Following their participation in the Schooner Classic, the Seminoles will close out their fall season at the Alamo Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio, Oct. 27-29.
THE SCHOONER FALL CLASSIC FIELD
Florida State is joined by No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 4 Oklahoma (the host school), No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 17 Georgia, No. 18 Kentucky, No. 23 Kent State, Denver, LSU, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas in the inaugural Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club in Oklahoma City, Okla. The course is designed by renowned architect Tripp Davis and captures the true beauty of the unspoiled Central Oklahoma farmlands.
CASTELAIN NAMED SEMINOLES' TEAM CAPTAIN FOR 2013-14
Junior Laure Castelain has been named the Seminoles' team captain for the 2013-14 season. She has played in 22 of 23 events during her career and has been the Seminoles' leader in four different events including the first event of her career - the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the University of Oklahoma during the fall of 2011.
CASTREN LEADS SEMINOLES IN FIRST TWO EVENTS
Freshman Matilda Castren (Espoo, Finland), who is averaging a team-leading 73.00 strokes in her first six career rounds, has led the Seminoles on the leaderboard in both of their two events. She finished in a tie for eighth at the Lady Paladin Invitational and in a tie for 15th at the Mo Morial Invitational. Castren is the second Seminole in the last two seasons to earn a top-10 individual finish after current Florida State sophomore Olivia Hullert finished in a tie for fifth place at the Florida Challenge during the spring of 2013. Castren has carded each of her six rounds with scores at 75 or better including the Seminoles' best individual round of season - a 2-under par 70 in the second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 21, 2013.
FRESHMEN LEAD SEMINOLES IN FIRST TWO EVENTS
Two of Florida State's freshmen - Matilda Castren (73.00 strokes per round) and Anna Sophia Böhmer (75.50 strokes per round) - are the Seminoles' top two golfers through the first two events of the fall season. Castren has earned two top 15 individual finishes (tied for eighth at the Lady Paladin and tied for 15th at the Mo Morial) while Böhmer earned her first career top 20 individual finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational (tied for 19th). The pair have also carded two of Florida State's three sub-par rounds in the first two events of the fall season - Castern with a 2-under par 70 in the second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational and Böhmer a 1-under par 71 in the first round of the Lady Paladin.
MILAN CONTINUES TO PLAY WELL
Junior Alex Milan has played in both of the Seminoles' first two events of the fall season and earned the third top-20 finish of her career - a tie for 17th place finish - at the fall season opening Mo Morial Invitational. She has earned the best single round score of her career (71 in the second round of the Mo Morial) and totaled the lowest tournament score of her career (223 at the Mo Morial) in the first event of the fall 2013 season.
SEMINOLES TO HOST 2014 NCAA EAST REGIONAL
Florida State will play host to the NCAA East Regional Championship as part of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship May 8-10, 2014 at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee.
