TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State University senior Jessica Negron carded a two round score of 6-over par 150 and missed the cut by one stroke at the U.S. Amateur Women's Golf Tournament at The Country Club in Cleveland. Ohio. She carded scores of 74-76 and fell one stroke short of finishing in the top 64 and advancing to the match play portion of the championship on Aug. 7.

Negron, who was playing in her second career U.S. Amateur, advanced to the match play portion of the 2010 U.S. Amateur but was unable to move forward this year. She was at even par and below the cut line after 13 holes in her second of two rounds but finished the round at 5 over par on her final five holes of the round to drop out of contention to advance to match play.

Negron was undeterred by not advancing and has since begun to channel all of her energies toward her senior season as a Seminole.

"I played solid golf at the U.S. Am - I just got a little unlucky on my closing holes during the second round," said Negron. "I want to continue to become a more consistent golfer during my senior season. I am very excited about the fall season because my confidence is getting to be where I need it to be. I also feel really good about our team and the season coming up. I can't wait to get started playing with my teammates again in a couple of weeks."

Third-year Seminole head coach Amy Bond echoed Negron's sentiments.

"Jess enjoyed two solid days at the U.S. Women's Am," said Bond. "She came up just short of qualifying for match play which was unfortunate for her. Qualifying for the Am was great for Jess and playing the two rounds against some really great competition was great for her confidence. I am really looking forward to her playing well as a senior for our team; she will play a vital role in the success of our team this season."

Negron will lead the Seminoles into a three-match fall schedule beginning at the GolfWeek Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, Colo. The Seminoles will also play in the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., and at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
