TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State's Alex Milan won the Kissimmee Collegiate Amateur women's golf tournament at the Reserve at Orange Lake on August 7-8. She carded scores of 72-72-70 and won the event with a 1 over par score of 214. She played her final five straight holes at par to win the championship by one stroke. Milan won the West Palm Beach Collegiate Amateur individual championship on June 27-28 at the Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs.
Milan carded scores of 72-72 for a 144 total in 36 holes played on the first day of the event and began the final round two strokes behind the leader with 18 holes to play. She opened final round play with three consecutive birdies to take the lead and never looked back. Milan totaled 11 birdies in her 54 holes played and averaged 71.3 strokes per round to gain the championship. She totaled a tournament best five birdies during the second round.
Milan's 1 under par score of 70 in the third round was one of only two under par rounds carded by any of the participants in the event. She played the final 12 holes of her first round at 2 under par, the final 12 holes of her second round at 1 over par and her final 10 holes of the tournament at only 1 over par to take home her second title on the tour this summer.
"It felt great to win again," said Milan. "This week I came from two strokes behind and battled for the title. I love all the experiences that I have gained from these two tournaments and hope to bring that confidence into my junior season at Florida State.
Milan is one of two players who have won multiple events on the Hurricane Collegiate Amateur Tour this summer.
Florida State opens its 2013 fall season September 9-11 at the Mo Morial Invitational at Texas A&M. The Seminoles play host to a pair of events at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee - the Florida State Match-Up (February 14-16) and the NCAA East Regional Championship (May 8-10).
