TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State's Matilda Castren, who won two individual championships and who set the school record for lowest stroke average in a single season, has been named to the All-American Second Team by GolfWeek. It's the second All-American honor for the freshman who also earned All-American Second Team honors by the Women's Golf Coaches Association of America following her outstanding freshman season.

Castren averaged a school record 71.83 strokes in 29 rounds during 10 events as a freshman during the fall 2013 and spring 2014 seasons. She led the Seminoles in stroke average (71.83), rounds played at par or better (14), rounds played with scores at 75 or better (27), low single round score (66), low 36-hole score (135) and low tournament score (204). Her 204 tournament score in winning the individual championship at the Web.com/Marsh Landing Intercollegiate ranks as a school record for the lowest tournament score in a three round event.

Castren is just the second freshman in school history to earn All-American honors. She joins Caroline Westrup (2007-2010) as the only two freshmen in school history to earn All-American honors.

Castren was the runner-up for both the ACC Player and ACC Rookie of the Year honors as she finished her first season as a Seminole ranked second in the ACC in stroke average and ranked 19th nationally among all players in the individual collegiate rankings by GolfWeek.

"Matilda enjoyed one of the great years of any player in the history of our program," said head coach Amy Bond. "The aspect of Matilda's game that I am the most excited about is that she is going to continue to improve during her career as a Seminole. Matilda has the skill and demeanor to grow as a golfer in each tournament she plays. She is also a great teammate and performed very well academically in her first year."

Florida State completed the 2013-14 season ranked 31st nationally by GolfWeek. The Seminoles were ranked as high as No. 22 during the 2013-14 fall and spring seasons.

Florida State opens its fall 2014 season in September at the Mo Morial Invitational at Texas A&M University.
