TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State rising senior Alex Milan and rising sophomore Lydia Gumm have both qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links (WAPL) Championship to be held at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash., July 14-19. Milan shot a 2 over par 74 at Madison Green Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Fla. while Gum shot a 3 over par 74 at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind. to qualify for the event.

Milan, who hails from Lutz, Fla., finished fourth while playing at the qualifying event held at Madison Green Golf Course in Florida on May 31.

"I am very happy to qualify for the Public Links Championship," said Milan. "I really feel that my maturity showed in the way I battled back after some tough shots and came through with birdies. I can't wait to compete in the championship especially knowing my teammate Lydia will be there with me."

Milan earned All-ACC honors in 2014 as one of the top golfers in one of the top conferences for women's collegiate golf in the nation. She earned her first career collegiate individual championship as she claimed medalist honors at the spring 2014 Florida Challenge and averaged a career-low 73.70 strokes in 20 rounds during seven tournaments as a junior.

A Radcliff, Ky. native, Gumm placed second at the qualifying event held at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Indiana on June 2.

"I feel like I battled really well during the round," said Gumm. "I am very excited for this opportunity and can't wait to get out there and play."

Gumm was Florida State's fourth-leading golfer with a 75.35 stroke average which included 13 of 20 rounds scored at 75 or below during her freshman season as a Seminole. She was the only Seminole to play in all 11 events as a member of the Seminoles' starting line-up during both the fall of 2013 and the spring of 2014. Gumm was at her best as a freshman in the postseason (ACC and NCAA Championships) as she averaged 74.67 strokes in six rounds and finished as Florida State's second highest finishing golfer in both events.

Gumm and Milan will be two of 156 golfers competing in the WAPL Championship. Two rounds of stroke-play qualifying will take place July 14-15 on the par 72 course in Washington. The field will then be cut to the 64 low scorers for six match-play rounds with the final match being contested over 36 holes.

Florida State made its school record ninth consecutive NCAA Championships appearance this past season and finished the year ranked 34th nationally by Golfstat. The Seminoles open their fall 2014 season at the Mo Morial Invitational at Texas A&M in September.
