Seminoles' Young Finishes Second At PGA Minority Championship

Young ties for first but falls in sudden-victory playoff.

PORT ST. LUCIE, FLa. - Florida State sophomore Sara Young finished in second place in the women's individual division of the 21st Annual PGA Minority Golf Championship at The PGA Club as competition in the event wrapped up Sunday. Young finished tied for first with Georgette Rollo of Texas Southern but lost on the first playoff hole as Rollo birdied and Young pared the only hole the pair needed to play in the extra session of golf to determine the winner.

Young (Jacksonville, Fla.) made up three strokes in the final round as she carded a six-over par 78 in the final round as compared to Rollo's 81. After carding an 86 in the first round of the event, Young carded scores of 77 and 78 to move from third after the first round to second after the second round and into a tie for third after the third round.

Earlier during the tournament, Young was presented with a $1,000 academic scholarship as presented by State Farm and the PGA Minority Golf Championship. She was one of ten student-athletes who participated in the event to receive the scholarship which will be donated in her named to Florida State University. Young is majoring in communications and psychology and is a student-intern in the Sports Information Office at Florida State. She just completed her second season as a member of the Florida State women's golf team.

Seminole teammate Ashleigh Anderson (Winter Springs, Fla.) played her best golf o the final day of the event as she carded an 84. She finished in sixth place in the standings with a 263 total for the 54-hole event.
