Seminoles Young And Anderson Among Leaders At PGA Minority Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Florida State sophomore Sara Young is in third and junior Ashleigh Anderson is in fifth in the women's independent division of the 21st Annual PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship at the PGA Golf Club. Young carded an 86 and Anderson an 89 in the first of three rounds under windy and rainy conditions on the course during the second half of the opening round.

Both Young (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Anderson (Winter Springs, Fla.) are in the hunt for the individual championship after the first 18 holes. Young carded a 40 on the front nine and was the leader after the first half of the course was played. She carded a 46 on the back nine once the rain and wind overtook the course. Anderson shot a 41 on the front nine - tied for the second best score of the afternoon - and finished with an 89. A total of 11 players are competing in the women's independent division of the tournament.

The event continues through Sunday.
