TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State junior Maria Salinas, who will led the Seminoles into to the NCAA East Regional championships beginning Thursday, has been named to the All-ACC Women's Golf team as voted on by the leagues nine head coaches and announced by the league office. It marks the first time Salinas has earned All-ACC honors and the 11th consecutive season that at least one Seminole player has been named to the all conference team. "I am honored to be named to the All-ACC team," said Salinas. "I feel that I have played well this year and this gives me more confidence heading into regionals. I have to thank all of my teammates because we are all out on the course together working each day to be better players and a better team." Salinas enters the NCAA East Regional Championship with a team leading a career low 74.21 stroke average - the ninth lowest scoring average in the ACC this season. She finished in second place in the individual standings at the Lady Puerto Rico Challenge and is one of only 10 players in the ACC who has earned either a first of second place individual finish this season. Salinas enters the NCAA tournament on a role as she has earned six consecutive top 25 finishes in six tournaments this spring and has finished as Florida State's leading golfer in three events as a junior. The Seminoles arrive at the NCAA regional championship with a second place finish (Lady Gator Invitational), a third place finish (Lady Puerto Rico Challenge), a fourth place finish (Kinderlou Forest Invitational) and a fifth place finish this season (Atlantic Coast Conference Championships). Florida State finished in a tie for sixth place at the 2010 NCAA Central Regional and a program best 10th place in the 2010 NCAA Championship finals. The Seminoles have played in all but three regional championships since the NCAA adopted the regional qualifying format in 1991. The Seminoles will make their 18th regional appearance and have made nine championship round appearances in the last 27 years. Florida State has finished in the national top-20 in four of the last seven years. "Maria had a great year - both during the fall and the spring," said Head Coach Amy Bond. "It's great for Maria and it's great for our team to have a player named to the All-ACC team on an annual basis. Maria is a great representative of her family, Florida State University and our golf program. I am happy for her and our team as we begin play in the regional championship on Thursday in Daytona Beach." 2011 All-ACC Women's Golf Team Name School Yr Hometown Maria Salinas Florida State Jr. Lima, Peru Laetitia Beck Duke Fr.
