April 19, 2007
Florida State junior Whitney Brummett helped lead the Florida State women's golf team to a third place finish in the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship. She and her teammates are now awaiting word on their participation in the NCAA Regional Championships for the second consecutive season - those bids will be announced on April 30. As she prepares to take her final exams, Brummett sat down with teammate Sara Young and seminoles.com for an up close interview.
What do you enjoy most about being a Seminole?
My favorite thing about being a Seminole would be the Seminole Spirit. I feel like we have a really unique and original symbol that is unlike any other and I find a lot of pride in that.
What do you enjoy most about the game of golf?
I really enjoy competing.
What's your favorite thing about traveling with the team?
I really enjoy experiencing all the little funny things that happen on the road. You get to see and learn everyone's little quirks and stuff that you wouldn't normally find out just being at practice.
How do you feel the season has gone so far?
I am looking forward to the postseason. We've won two tournaments, which is the most we've ever won since I've been here. In that respect it's been a really good season. We are moving in the right direction as the post season begins and we are all really excited about that.
Do you feel like you've reached your personal expectations of yourself this season?
I am getting closer to reaching my goals. I still want to perform a little bit better than I have during regionals and nationals to reach my goals.
What do you feel are the strengths of your game?
My strengths are my ball striking and my mental game. I never give up. Even when I have a bad start I feel like I can always come back and compete.
What do you feel like you did well this season?
I think my attitude is the best it has ever been this season. I stayed more positive and wasn't as hard on myself. I have had more fun because of my attitude on the course.
What's the most fun you've had this season?
The match play in the fall was the most fun event we have played in this year. It was a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we were all working together as a team. We were really cheering each other on and it was really uplifting
Where do you see this program in five years?
I see this Florida State program as a top 10 program every year. Every year we get better and we recruit better players so I think in the future it will be even better.
If you weren't playing golf as a Seminole what would you be doing?
I think I would be competing in another college sport because I used to play all kinds of sports. I would probably be playing softball or swimming at the collegiate level.
What are your personal goals for your senior season?
I want to finish out my junior year playing well and have my performance this season lead into my senior season. My individual goals as a senior will be to improve my scoring average and earn All-ACC honors.
What do you expect from the team next season?
I want us to finish in the top 10 at nationals.
What is your favorite TV show, why?
I'm going to go with Jeopardy because that's a classic. It's a constant favorite and it never gets old.
If you could listen to one CD for the rest of your life what would it be?
I really love Mariah Carey's Greatest hits collection. Either that or a compilation Christmas CD because I really like Christmas music.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
I would say fillet with burnet sauce. It's really just the burnet sauce but you kind of have to have the fillet to dip it in the sauce.
