Florida State Plays At Web.com Intercollegiate April 7-8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) -
The Florida State women's golf team, which has finished in the top four of the team standings in three of its first four events of the spring season, plays its final regular season match as it travels to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., to play in the third annual Web.com/Marsh Landing Intercollegiate at the Marsh Landing Country Club. The Seminoles finished in fourth place in their most recent tournament - the Bryan National Collegiate -and ahead of seven teams ranked ahead of them in the most recent GolfStat national rankings. Following their participation in the Web.com/Marsh Landing Invitational the Seminoles will play in the 26th Annual ACC Championship April 17-19 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

No. 35 Florida State is joined by No. 17 UCF, No. 24 Ohio State, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Florida International, Illinois, Jacksonville (the host school), James Madison, Louisville, Maryland, McNeese State, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Florida, Sam Houston State and Toledo in the 2014 Web.com/Marsh Landing Invitational at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer's design partner, Ed Seay. The course weaves through pockets of intracoastal marshes and towering pines that provide a year-round golf experience and home to an extraordinary array of wildlife. The Web.com/Marsh Landing Invitational will be played on the Par 72, 5,967 yard course that was opened in 1986. A new team champion in the event will be crowned as Stetson (2012) and Purdue (2013), who won the first two championships, are not in this year's field. A new individual champion will also be crowned.
FLORIDA STATE'S HISTORY AT THE WEB.COM/MARSH LANDING INTERCOLLEGIATE
Florida State finished in fourth place in the Web.com/Marsh Landing Intercollegiate in 2013 with a team score of 886. The Seminoles were led by Jessica Negron who finished tied for 11th in the individual standings.
CASTREN RUNS HER TOP 10 STREAK TO SIX CONSECUTIVE
Freshman Matilda Castren finished in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings at the Bryan National Collegiate to run her streak of top-10 individual finishes to six. She has finished in the top 10 of each of her last six events and in six of her seven events as a freshman. Castren's best finish (first place) came at the Florida State hosted Florida State Match-Up while her lowest finish (tied for 15th) came in her first collegiate event (the Mo Morial Invitational at Texas A&M University. Castren is a total of 15 strokes over par in the first seven events of her career and was a career best 10 strokes under par in winning the Florida State Match-Up.
CASTREN IN THE NATIONAL AND ACC RANKINGS
Freshman Matilda Castren enters the Web.com/Marsh Landing Invitational ranked 18th nationally in the Golfstat rankings and 21st in the GolfWeek rankings. She is the seventh highest ranking freshman in the Golfstat rankings. Castren is ranked third in the ACC with a 72.15 stroke average. She trails only Ashlan Ramsay of Clemson (71.67) and Yu Liu of Duke (71.72) in the ACC rankings.
GUMM CONTINUES TO PLAY WELL AS A FRESHMAN
Freshman Lydia Gumm, who is one of only three Seminoles who has played in each of the Seminoles' nine events, earned the third top 30 individual finish of her career as she placed in a tie for 27th in the individual standings at the Bryan National Collegiate. She carded a 73 and was in a tie for 10th place after the first round of the event. Gumm's score of 73 was only one stroke off of her career best score of 72 (at the 2014 Florida Challenge) and marked her 10th score in 22 rounds that she has carded a 75 or below.
MILAN ENJOYING HER BEST SEASON
Junior Alex Milan finished in a tie for 12th place in the individual standings at the Bryan National Collegiate with an 8 over par score of 224. The finish marked her fourth career top 15-finish and her fourth consecutive top 25 individual placing. Milan earned her first career individual collegiate victory at the 2014 Florida Challenge and finished in a tied for third at the 2013 Florida Challenge. She enters the 2014 Web.com/Marsh Landing Intercollegiate with a career-best 74.65 stroke average - an average which is nearly three strokes lower than her sophomore-season stroke average of 77.50 and nearly four strokes better than her freshman season stroke average of 78.20.
SEMINOLES TO HOST 2014 NCAA EAST REGIONAL
Florida State will play host to the NCAA East Regional Championship as part of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship May 8-10, 2014 at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee.
