No. 25 Seminoles To Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - No. 25 Florida State, which finished in third place at the Lady Gator Invitational in its last event, travels to the University of Georgia to play in the 40th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the UGA Golf Course. The Seminoles are one of six teams ranked in the nation's top 25 by GolfWeek magazine that will play in the event. The Seminoles have earned three top five-team finishes (Mo Morial Tournament at Texas A&M University, Susie Berning Classic at the University of Oklahoma and at the Lady Gator Invitational at the University of Florida) this year and will play in their seventh of eight regular season events at the Liz Murphey. Following the Liz Murphey, the Seminoles will play their final regular season tournament at the Bryan National Collegiate (April 6-8) before beginning postseason play at the ACC Championships (April 13-15).

THE LIZ MURPHEY COLLEGIATE CLASSIC FIELD
No. 25 Florida State is joined by No. 2 Alabama, No. 7 Auburn, No. 12 Georgia, No. 16 Florida, No. 23 Michigan State, Arkansas, Augusta State, Denver, Kent State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Purdue, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wake Forest in the 2012 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The event will be played on the Par 72, 6,335 yard University of Georgia Course in Athens, Ga. The teams will tee off in waves beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and via a shotgun start on Sunday. The event, which was first played in 1973, is named for former Georgia coach and administrator Liz Murphey. Alabama is the defending team champion while Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora returns to defend her individual championship from 2011.

SALINAS NAMED ACC GOLFER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH
Senior Maria Salinas, who won her first career individual championship at the Lady Gator Invitational, was named the ACC Golfer of the Month of March - along with North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell. Salinas won her first career individual championship with a 4-under par score of 206 at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational, played March 16-18 in Gainesville, Fla. She helped the Seminoles finish in third place in the team standings and her final 66 score on the last day ranked as her career low. The Seminoles, ranked No. 34 nationally at the time of the tournament, finished ahead of four teams in the top 15 of the national ranking including No. 4 Auburn (tied for sixth), No. 11 Duke (fifth) and No. 14 Baylor (ninth).

SALINAS BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Maria Salinas has now earned 11 top 10 individual finishes including seven during her three-year career as a Seminole. The Seminoles have won two team championships (Pinehurst Challenge and the Bryan National Collegiate in the spring of 2010) and finished in the top three of five more tournaments during her career.

JANSSON CONTINUES TO PLAY WELL AS A SEMINOLE
Junior Malin Jansson, who finished in a tie for fourth place in the AllState Sugar Bowl Classic, is Florida State's second leading with a career low 74.87 stroke average. She has now earned three top five individual finishes in her career (two at Western Carolina and one at Florida State) and has finished as the Seminoles' team leader in two tournaments (the Mo Morial at Texas A&M University in the fall of 2011 and at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate).

SEMINOLES AT THE LADY GATOR INVITATIONAL IN THE LAST THREE YEARS
Florida State has been one of the dominant teams in the Lady Gator Invitational in the last three seasons with a third place team finish in 2012, a second place team finish in 2011, a second place team finish in 2012 and the individual champion in both of the last two seasons - Maria Salinas in 2012 and Hannah Thomson in 2011. Current junior Jessica Negron finished in third place in the individual standings in 2010.
