TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 26 ranked Florida State women's golf team will play in its second tournament of the spring season as it travels to play in the inaugural Kinderlou Forest Challenge at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Ga., March 1-2, 2010. The 18 teams who will vie for the championship of the brand new event will play 36 holes on March 1 and 18 holes on March 2 to complete the 54-hole tournament. The two-day event will feature Florida State (whose campus is located less than 80 miles from the golf course) and nine of the top ranked 30 teams in the nation.

THE INAUGURAL KINDERLOU FOREST CHALLENGE FIELD
No. 26 Florida State is joined by No. 7 Tennessee, No. 10 Georgia, No. 12 Virginia, No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Florida, No. 23 South Carolina, No. 27 North Carolina, No. 28 Chattanooga, No. 30 Kent State, Arkansas, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Tulane in the inaugural Kinderlou Forest Challenge at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. The event will be played on a Davis Love III designed course that opened in 2004 and has been recognized as one of the best golf course in the South Georgia region of the United States. The course is also home to the South Georgia Classic hosted by the Nationwide Tour.

GOLDEN NAMED INTERIM WOMEN'S GOLF COACH AT FLORIDA STATE
Kate Golden, a 14-year LPGA Professional who won the 2001 LPGA State Farm Classic, will coach the Seminoles for the first time at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge as she was named the Interim Women's Golf Coach at Florida State on Feb. 25. Golden has competed in over 30 LPGA major championships and earned more than $1 million during the 2003 season. Still touring professionally on the LPGA, Golden comes to Florida State from the University of Houston where she was a volunteer assistant coach for the Cougar men's golf team. During her LPGA career, Golden has earned eight top five finishes and 14 top 10 finishes. In winning the State Farm Classic in 2001, she established a tournament record with a 21-under par score over the four day event.

SEMINOLES EARN FOURTH TOP 10 TEAM FINISH TO OPEN SPRING
Junior Macarena Silva shot a final round 74 and finished in a tie for 19th place in the individual standings and the No. 26 ranked Seminole women's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place in the team standings at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Coco Beach Golf Club to open the spring 2010 season. The finish marked the Seminoles' fourth top six team finish in five events this year after they won the Lady Wildcat Invitational and earned two second place team finishes during the fall season. Silva played a very consistent tournament as she averaged 75.00 strokes in the three round event. She finished the final two rounds of the event with scores of 73-74 after carding a 78 in the first round. Silva's top 20 finish was the fourth in her last five events and the fifth of her career.
