NORMAN, Okla. (seminoles.com) - Junior Laure Castelain shot a career-low tying 70 and is in a tie for third place in the individual standings and the Florida State women's golf team is in fourth place in the team standings after the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club. Castelain is one of five players tied for third place and is only three strokes out of the individual lead with two rounds and 36 holes remaining to be played.

No. 5 ranked Oklahoma State and No. 9 ranked Arizona State are tied for the team lead with identical scores of 293. The Cowgirls and the Sun Devils are two strokes ahead of LSU and three strokes ahead of Florida State. The Seminoles are two strokes ahead of No. 23 Kent State, four strokes ahead of No. 18 Kentucky, and 11 strokes ahead of No. 4 ranked Oklahoma.

"The girls did a great job of staying in the present and played super-well in some really tough conditions," said heads coach Amy Bond. "This is a really tough golf course and our play today really shows that we are coming along very well. We have to stay within ourselves starting tomorrow and keep playing the way we know how to play. This is an extremely talented field and we are looking forward to playing well again tomorrow."

The first round of the event, which is being played to benefit the Toby Keith Foundation and the OK Kids Korral, was played in in winds gusting at 20-30 miles per hour throughout the day.

Castelain (Bordeaux, France) tied her career best with her score of 70 in the first round. She totaled three birdies and 12 more holes scored at par. She played her best golf of the afternoon on her first nine as she played all nine holes at par or better with two birdies. Castelain's score of 70 is the best of the season - she had not carded a score below 75 in the first two events of the fall season.

Castelain certainly has an affinity for playing in the state of Oklahoma. She earned the best finish of her career (tied for third) and the best scores of her career (70 in both the first and second rounds) in the first event of her career - the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic - at the Jimmie Austin Golf Course at the University of Oklahoma during the fall of 2011.

Freshman Matilda Castren (Espoo, Finland) finished with a 4-over par score of 74 and is in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings. She carded two birdies and 10 more holes scored at par. Castren began her day on hole No. 10 and was even par on her first nine holes.

Castren is looking to earn her third consecutive top-20 individual finish. She has been Florida State's leader in each of the first two events of the fall season.

Junior Alex Milan (Lutz, Fla.) is the third of the Seminoles' players in the top 25 of the individual standings (She is in a tied for 25th place) after carding a score of 75. She, too, played her best golf of the round on her front nine (she began on hole No. 10) and finished her first nine holes at even par with two birdies and five holes scored at par.

The Seminoles will tee off at 8:30 CST time and are paired with TCU and Kent State in Sunday's second round.
