CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Florida State University All-American Caroline Westrup is in a tie for 21st place in the individual standings and the No. 28 ranked Seminole women's golf team is in a tie for 11th place in the team standings after the first round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course on the University of North Carolina campus. Westrup is the defending individual champion in the event and will look to move up in the individual standings during the remaining two rounds of the event.

No. 18 Wake Forest holds the first round lead as the Deacons have a one-stroke lead over unranked Tulsa. Wake Forest leads the field of 18 and is the highest placing of the six ACC teams in the event. No. 1 ranked Duke is in a tie for ninth place - seven strokes off of the Wake Forest pace. Michaela Cavener of Tulsa is in first place in the individual standings with a first-round score of four-under par 68.

"We had some good things happen today," said Head Coach Debbie Dillman. "We were over par early and were able to bring it together as a group. Considering the entire back nine was played in the rain I am very pleased with our overall play. Caroline turned it around and was striking the ball really well near the end of the round and I was really impressed by Macarena's first trip out. We are confident as a team heading into the second round."

Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) shot a three-over par score of 75 with 13 holes of par or better and three birdies in the first round. She was two-over on her first nine holes (she began play on hole number 10) and only one-over par on her final nine holes. Westrup finished her round two-under par on her last four holes after her score had moved to five-over par for the first 14 holes of her round. Westrup finished tied for first in the individual standings at this event last season with a two-under par total of 214 for the three round event.

Freshman Macarena Silva (Santiago, Chile) finished with a four-over par score of 76 as she made her collegiate debut for the Seminoles. She played well throughout the round as she carded 14 holes of par and four bogeys. After beginning her round with three consecutive bogeys, Silva played her final 15 holes of the afternoon at one-over par. She is in a tie for 32nd place.

Senior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) and sophomore Lacey Agnew (Jonesboro, Ga.) finished with scores of 77 and 78 respectively. Wright, who is playing in her home state of North Carolina, led the team with four birdies while Agnew was three over on both sides of the course.

Saturday's second round begins at 9:00 Saturday morning with the final round teeing off Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
