WOLCOTT, Colo. (seminoles.com) - WOLCOTT, Colo. (seminoles.com) - Florida State sophomore Laure Castelain is in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings and the Seminole women's golf team is in 14th place in the team standings with one round remaining to be played at the fall season opening GolfWeek Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club. Castelain has a two round total of 151 with scores of 75-76 and is only three strokes outside of the top 25 as she plays for the fifth top 25 individual finish of her 10-tournament career at Florida State. Pepperdine, the 26th ranked team in the nation according to GolfWeek, is in sole possession of first place in the team standings with a two stroke lead over UC Davis. The Waves were tied for first with Oklahoma after the first round and now lead the defending tournament champion Sooners by three strokes. Demi Rumas of UC Davis leads the individual standings with a score of 6 under par 138. "Our younger players (Castelain, Carlton Kuhlo and Olivia Hullert) continued to play well," said Seminole head coach Amy Bond. "They are learning from their mistakes and moving their games forward. The good thing is that all five of our girls are moving forward and will be better tomorrow than they were today. And that's the most important thing right now - overall improvement." Castelain (Bordeaux, France) played well on 17 of her 18 holes and was in line for a strong afternoon until late in the round. She teed off on her 17th hole of the day with a 1 over par score and the opportunity to move into the top 10 of the individual standings. Castelain unfortunately finished that hole with a triple bogey seven and ended her round with a 4 over par score of 76. She did, though, play the round with 13 holes at par or better with a team high four birdies. Castelain has a seven over par score of 151 and is in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings heading into the third round. Freshman Olivia Hullert (Baerum, Norway) played the best round of the day for the Seminoles as she finished with a 3 over par score of 75. She totaled three birdies and nine more holes scored at par. Hullert was playing well and was at even par through 12 holes before carding three consecutive bogeys and finishing the round at 3 over par. She was 1 under par over her first nine holes and 4 over par on her final nine holes. Hullert is Florida State's second ranked player on the scoreboard with a two round 8 over par 152 total and second among the Seminoles with six birdies during her first two collegiate rounds of golf. Sophomore Carlton Kuhlo (Tallahassee, Fla.), who was Florida State's individual leader after the first round, shot a 7 over par score of 79 in the second round and is now the Seminoles' third ranked golfer. She is in a tie for 42nd place in the individual standings. After two rounds of set tee times, the Seminoles will play from a shotgun start in the final round and are paired with South Florida and San Jose State. The trio will tee off at 10:45 EST.
