BRYAN, Tex. (seminoles.com) - Florida State University sophomore Jessica Negron shot a five over par 77 and is in a tie for 64th place in the individual standings with one round remaining to be played in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship finals at the Traditions Club. Play in the event was suspended because of darkness as the field of players was taken off of the course earlier in the day because of a 1:50 weather delay for lightning.

A total of six teams were not able to fully complete their rounds; those six teams will complete their play in the third round on Saturday morning before the fourth and final round begins. Negron had completed her third round play and was unaffected by the suspension in play. Negron's starting time on Saturday morning will be pushed back to accommodate the teams that have to finish play in the third round.

Negron started her third round of play on the back nine of the course for the second consecutive day and showed that she had learned from her missteps in the second round. She earned par scores on her first three holes of the round - holes in which she earned a double bogey and two bogeys on in the second rounds. Negron was even par on six of her first nine holes of the round and was three over as she made the turn to the front nine.

Negron continued to display her desire to improve on her first hole on the front nine as she was even on the par four hole No. 1. She suffered an unfortunate triple bogey during the second round on that hole. She finished the round with one par and four holes of par and closed her day with a score of 77.

"I feel like I am hitting the ball off the tee pretty well - it's my putting that is setting me back," said Negron. This is a very challenging course that is very unforgiving. I just have to concentrate on every shot, hit the greens and stay out of the bunkers. I'm looking forward to having another shot at the course tomorrow and then becoming a better golfer in the future when I can go back and really analyze and learn from the experiences I have had this week."

Negron has a three round total of 12 over par 228. Her 54 hole total of 228 is ties for her third best of the spring as she embarks on her first four round tournament of the year. Negron is playing in her second career collegiate four round tournament - she finished in a tie for 21st place at the NCAA Division I Championship finals last year as a freshman. She had a total of 216 after three rounds last year.

Negron is one of six individuals competing along with 24 teams in this year's national championship finals. UCLA holds the team lead as they look to dethrone Purdue after the Boilermakers won the 2010 national championship. The Bruins lead Purdue by six strokes heading into the completion of the third round and play in the final round. Tiffany Lua holds the individual lead - she still has four holes to play to complete the third round.

"Jessica is playing well," said head coach Amy Bond. "She's not missing very often and when she is missing she is missing by just inches. She is also learning a lot by playing this course - it's one of the top two of three collegiate courses she will play during her career as a Seminole. She is learning to stay out of bunkers and is having a really good experience. This experience is going to make her a better golfer and that is great for her maturation as a golfer.
