MIAMI LAKES, FLA. - The Florida State University women's golf team is in first place and three Seminole golfers are tied for second in the individual standings after the first round the Ryder/Florida Championships at Don Shula's Golf Club and Resort. The 19th ranked Seminoles are the defending tournament champion and are looking to win the event for the third time in the last six years.

Florida State entered the tournament ranked 19th by Golfstat and 21st in this week's GolfWeek/Sagarain Power Rankings. The Seminoles lead second place Florida Atlantic by 13 strokes.

Senior All-America candidate Kristin Tamulis (Miami, Fla.), junior Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Caroline Larsson (Dendyard, Sweden) are all tied for second with identical first round scores of two-over par 74.

Tamulis' two-over par 74 marked the fifth time in seven rounds this spring she has scored 74 or better. She is averaging a team-leading 73.29 strokes per round in four tournaments this spring. Tamulis is the nation's 28th ranked women's collegiate golfer according the GolfWeek/Sagrain rankings.

Curdt's 74 marked her best round of the spring season. It was her best round since shooting a career-best 69 in the second round of the Landfall Tradition in November. Larsson carded a 74 or better for the third time in seven spring season rounds.

Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) shot a four-over par 76 and is tied for eighth-place in the individual standings for the Seminoles while junior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) is tied for 19th-place after carding a 79.

"I was very pleased with how our women performed today," said head coach Debbie Dillman. "The course is in great shape and the greens are really fast. The great thing about each of our women is they were not satisfied with their performances. They all have a fire about them right now and I am pleased about that."

The second round of the tournament, 18 holes, begins Saturday morning at 8 a.m. The final round, an 18-hole shotgun start, begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
