(seminoles.com) - Florida State senior Jessica Negron carded a 1 over par 73 and moved into the top 20 in the individual standings and the Seminole women's golf team improved its team standing by two positions during the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate on the Champions Course at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center. Negron is now in a tie for 20th place in the individual standings and the Seminoles are in a tie for 13th place in the standings with one round remaining to be played.

No. 15 Virginia maintained its lead in the team standings and holds a nine stroke lead over second placed Arkansas with 18 holes remaining to be played. The Cavaliers have four players in the top 10 of the individual standings and are led by Brittany Altomare who owns the individual lead with a two stroke lead of Emilie Burger of Georgia.

Negron (Ocala, Fla.) played a strong round of golf as she counted a team leading six birdies in her score of 73. She has a two round total of 148. Negron improved her first round score by two strokes and her first round placing in the individual standings buy 13 positions. She was as many as two strokes under par and never more than two strokes over par in carding the best score of the round for the Seminoles.

Negron carded two birdies on her first three holes and four on her first seven holes and made the turn at one under par. She continued to play well on her second side of the course with six holes played at par or better with two birdies. Negron closed her round on a very positive not with a birdie on the par four hole No. 9. She begins play in the Sunday's final round only three strokes out of the top 10 and only four strokes out of the top five in the individual standings.

Freshman Olivia Hullert (Bareum, Norway) made the most improvement of the Seminoles' five players from the first round to the second round. She carded a 3 over par 75 in Saturday's second round after finishing with a 79 on Friday. She has two day two of 154. Hullert begins play in the final round in a tie for 56th place - an improvement of 16 positions from her standing after the first round of play.

Hullert and sophomore Laure Castelain (Bordeaux, France) are in a tie for 56th in the individual standings with identical two round scores of 154. Castelain carded a 78 in the second round. Senior Mary Beth Ramsay (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Alex Milan (Lutz, Fla.) finished the second round with scores of 77.

In all, four the Seminoles' five golfers finished with improved scores in the second round as compared to the first round: Hullert, -4, Negron, -2, Ramsay, -1 and Milan, -1. As a team, the Seminoles improved their team score by five strokes.

"For our team right now it's all about finishing strong and as coaches we have to help our team improve on that skill," said Head Coach Amy Bond. "We have to learn to maintain our focus, play all 18 holes and finish every round strong. Our goal for tomorrow is to focus on all 18 holes and finish all 18 holes. The weather is not expected to be good but we have to be. We have to be mentally strong for all 18 holes of the round."

Sunday's final round - a shotgun start - begins at 8:30 a.m. After playing three consecutive weekends, the Seminoles are off after this event until April 8-9 when they play at the Marsh Landing Invitational at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
