BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Florida State senior Whitney Brummett carded a one-under par 71 and is in fifth place in the individual standings and the Seminole women's golf team is in 12th place in the team standings after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate on the Bryan Park Players Course. Brummett carded her best score of the spring season and is only two stokes out of the individual lead heading into the second round of the 54-hole tournament.

No. 1 ranked Duke is in first place in the team standings and has three players in the top seven of the individual standings after the first 18 holes of the event. The Blue Devils are led by Amanda Blumenhurst who carded a two-under par score of 70. Steffi Kirchmayr of the College of Charleston holds the individual lead after carding a three-under par score of 69.

Brummett (Eureka, Mo) is in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings and is on top of the Seminoles' leader board for the second consecutive week. She was Florida State's leader after the first round of last week's Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia. Brummett birdied two of her first three holes of the afternoon and spent most of the round below par. She was above par for only one of her 18 holes played on Friday. She is looking for her first top-10 finish since finishing third at the Fall 2003 Cougar Classic.

Junior All-American Caroline Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) is in a tie for 23rd place after carding a three-over par score of 75. She finished the round well as she was even par over her last eight holes after carding one birdie and four bogeys on her first six holes. Westrup has earned five top-20 finishes this season including the individual championship at the LSU/Cleveland Classic earlier this month.

Freshman Macarena Silva (Santiago, Chile) finished with a six-over par score of 78. She improved her score in each of the final two rounds of last weekend's tournament at the University of Georgia and will look to continue that trend this weekend. Silva finished with scores of par or better on 13 of her 15 holes on Friday.
