GAINESVILLE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State senior Jessica Negron shot a 72 in the final round and finished in a tie for ninth place in the individual standings to lead the Seminole women's golf team to a seventh place finish in the final standings at the Lady Gator Invitational on the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida. Negron has now earned nine career top 10 individual finishes including two in the last two tournaments. Florida State defeated two top 25 ranked teams - No. 6 North Carolina and No. 18 Baylor - on its way to its third top seven finishes in three events this spring. The Seminoles began the tournament ranked No. 49 nationally in the Golfstat rankings. No. 3 ranked Alabama, the highest ranked team in the 15-team field, won the team championship with a three stroke victory over No. 4 Oklahoma. Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma won the individual title with five stroke victory over Portland Rosen of Virginia. Jao-Javanil shot a 1-under par 69 in the third and final round and finished with a 206 total. She was the only player in the field that shot below par in each of the three rounds of the tournament. Negron (Ocala, Fla.) carded a 2 over par 72 in the final round to finish with a 217 total for the 54 holes played during the weekend. She was 1 under par through her first 11 holes with two birdies and eight holes at par. Negron closed the event with a birdie on her final hole to finish at two over par for the round. Negron totaled three birdies in the final round - a total than was better than her total of one birdie through the first two rounds of the tournament. Senior Mary Beth Ramsay (Orlando, Fla.) carded a 73 in the third round and finished in a tie for 46th place in the individual standings with a 228 total. She came within one shot of tying her career best record for a single round score (she shot a 72 in the Florida State earlier this spring) and finished with a 227 tournament total at the Cougar Classic during the fall of 2009. Sophomore Laure Castelain (Bordeaux, France) and freshman Olivia Hullert (Baerum, Norway) both finished with scores of 74 in the final round of the event. The identical scores of 74 were the best of the tournament for both players. Senior Malin Jansson finished with a three round total of 225 and in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings. "We played better and fought pretty hard today," said head coach Amy Bond. "We got a couple of wins over a couple of quality teams (North Carolina and Baylor) wand that is a positive step forward. We still need to continue to work on our short games and we have to make more putts. "We want to continue to get better and peak at the right time of the season," continued Bond. "We took a step forward in a progress as a team this weekend." The Seminoles continue their spring schedule as the travel to play at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., March 22-24.
