GAINESVILLE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State freshman Matilda Castren finished in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings and the Seminole women's golf team finished in seventh place in the team standings as play in the Lady Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course came to a conclusion. The finish for Castren marked her fifth consecutive top eight individual placing and marked the fifth time in the first six events of her Seminole career that she had led the Seminoles in the final standings of a tournament.

No. 12 Arizona roared back from a tie for third place standing entering the final round to earn the tournament championship. The Wildcats played the best team round of the tournament in the third and final round to edge Kent State by one stroke for the title. Daniela Darquea of Miami carded a 3 under par score of 67 in the final round to win the individual championship with a three round score of 214. She defeated a group of three players by one stroke to post the second individual victory of her freshman season as a Hurricane.

"We didn't play our best golf today but we are close to putting everything together," said head coach May Bond. "Overall it was a successful week for our team and each one of our players. We beat some good team and we continue to display improvement in each event. We need to get more mentally tough and that is something we are constantly working on with our team."

Florida State finished five strokes ahead of No. 16 Florida (eighth place) and six strokes ahead of No. 4 Oklahoma (ninth place) in the team standings.

Castren (Espoo, Finland) continued to play sensational golf in her first season as a Seminole as she carded a 73 in the final round and closed with an 8 over par 218 score for the three round event. She has now finished tied for eighth or better in five of her six collegiate events including an individual championship at the Florida State Match-Up in February.

Castren finished her third round with 14 holes scored at par or better with one birdie. She closed the event with five birdies and 43 holes scored at par or better.

Junior Alex Milan (Lutz, Fla.) earned the seventh top-25 finish of her career as she closed the event in a tie for 21st place. She earned all three of her scores a 74 or below (73-74-74) and has now scored seven of her eight rounds this spring at 75 or below. Milan is averaging a career-low 74.65 strokes in 20 rounds during seven events this year.

Freshman Lydia Gumm (Radcliff, Ky.) was Florida State's third leading golfer during the third round as she carded her second consecutive score of 75 and finished with a 54-hole total of 229. She has now carded four of her eight single round scores at 75 or below this spring. Gumm led the Seminoles with three birdies in the third and final round of the event.

Junior Carlton Kuhlo (Tallahassee, Fla.), who was playing as an individual in the event, earned the best finish of her career as finished in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings. She carded a 4-over par 74 in the final round. Kuhlo established personal bests for single round score (68 in the first round) and career finish (tied for 13th) while tying her career best scores for 36 holes (145) and for a three round tournament score (219). She has now finished in the top 20 in each of her three events during the spring season.

After a week off, the Seminoles continue their six-match spring season at the Bryan National Collegiate March 28-20 in Browns Summit, N.C.
