In the fourth of four straight road games, the Florida State women's basketball team is looking to even up its road record with a 7 p.m. game at Fordham Wednesday, December 28 in Bronx, N.Y. The game can be heard live in Tallahassee on WFLA AM 1270 or on www.seminoles.com.
FSU is coming off a 75-68 loss at Xavier on Dec. 21st in which five Seminoles scored in double figures for the second straight game but the squad couldn't stop Xavier's 59 percent shooting in the second half and got outrebounded for just the second time this season.
Florida State has not played at home since Dec. 4th and will have just three home contests over the next 37 days while playing seven road games, including the Fordham contest, during that stretch.
Wednesday's game will be the fourth meeting between Florida State and Fordham and the second consecutive season the two programs have met as the Seminoles took a 65-61 win over Fordham in the first round of the San Juan Shootout last December. FSU is 3-0 all-time vs. Fordham but for the most part, the games have been close as the Seminoles have won by seven or less twice. Overall, the Tribe has won by an average of just 10.7 points per game.
The Fordham game will mark the second time Sue Semrau has taken her team to the Big Apple. The first time was in the 2000-01 season when the Seminole defeated St. Francis (73-65) on Dec. 17th and Fordham (73-52) on Dec. 19th. FSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament that season which marked the first time in 10 years that the Seminoles went to the Big Dance.
Since the 1980-81 season (since dates have been kept in the records), Florida State is 11-14 in the game right after Christmas, including 3-5 under Sue Semrau. The Seminoles won the game last year with a 69-54 win vs. Louisville in Montana on Dec. 28th. The last time the Tribe lost the game right after Christmas was a 75-68 loss to LSU in Atlanta on Dec. 27, 2003.
