TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Former Florida State women's basketball standout Alicia Gladden had her jersey retired at Orange Park High School, helping commemorate her life which included being one of the best basketball players to come out of the Jacksonville area.

Gladden, who is Florida State's all-time steals leader and starred for the `Noles from 2003-07, was a fatal victim of a drunk driving accident caused by another driver on April 19 after she was driving back home from a Creekside High School basketball game where she coached. Gladden's jersey was retired on Friday, Nov. 22, in a touching ceremony that included members of family helping honor the outstanding performer.

Nicknamed "Ice" for her smooth style of play as a left-handed player, Gladden achieved several feats on the court. Besides leading Florida State with 275 career steals, Gladden is the only three-time ACC All-Defensive Team player from Florida State, earning a spot on the squad from 2005-07. She was also a four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and a two-time All-ACC Academic Team member.

The Orange Park native enjoyed a fine professional career playing overseas, including stints in Serbia, Romania, Poland and Luxembourg. While at Florida State, Gladden became the 20th member of FSU's 1,000-point club, finishing with 1,403 for her career.

She is also one of just 11 `Noles to be part of the 1,000-point, 700-rebound club, and finished her career as a two-time All-ACC Third Team performer.
