Britany Miller has only been playing basketball since the seventh grade, but you sure wouldn't know it by the way she dominates on the court for Florida State. After earning ACC All-Freshman team honors last year, Miller's sophomore year is off to a tremendous start. She is leading the team in scoring at 19.0 points per game and ranks second on the squad with 6.0 rebounds per outing. She dazzled fans in the season-opener when she scored a career-high 28 points and added eight rebounds.

Miller came back this season in the best shape of her career and it is paying off on the court. The 6-4 center brings a little bit of everything to the team. In addition to being among the team leaders in scoring and rebounding, she is the team leader in free throw percentage at 83 percent, is second on the squad in field goal shooting at 62 percent and has a team-high 10 blocks.

"I have great hands and they throw the ball to me in the post," Miller said when asked about her strengths on the court. "I'm working on being stronger in the post position, but I have a nice touch with the basketball."

What she brings to the team off of the court is slightly different. The Seminoles enjoy singing together on road trips and Miller is known for her extensive knowledge of all songs so when the Seminoles sing, she usually leads the way.

But, like everyone, Miller also has her weaknesses. She feels she is sometimes inconsistent on the court and also states a bad quality off of the court is sometimes feeling like she can get an attitude which brings her team down. Like any good teammate, however, she realizes these shortcomings and tries to correct her mistakes.

While the Tallapoosa, Ga., native is a force to be reckoned with in the middle for the Seminoles, she now has a running partner in freshman forward Jacinta Monroe. Their chemistry together on and off the court is evident and makes the future of Seminole basketball extremely bright. Through the first four games of the season, the duo has been responsible for 114 points and 53 rebounds.

"I feel like she (Jacinta) is starting off like me," Miller said. "She is a freshman just doing really good. Within the next few years, she will be even better. She is a funny person and we get along real well. We (the team) have buddies and she is my buddy. It's real easy to get along with Jacinta."

Miller's inspiration to succeed comes from her family and the fact that she is fortunate enough to be earning a college education through playing basketball.

"I look up to my mom because she is a very hard worker," Miller said. "She has worked hard to get everything she has, especially helping my brother and me growing up, and as a single mother. I'm inspired to play basketball because I know I'm getting an education and my family loves that I'm doing it."

Although she still has a lot of playing to do at Florida State, Miller cherishes all of the moments she has had so far as a Seminole.

"Every day is my favorite memory with this basketball team because every day is different and every day is even better than the last," she said.
