TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State University women's basketball Head Coach Sue Semrau has announced that Linnea Liljestrand, a 5-10 shooting guard from Stockholm, Sweden, who is currently a finalist for the Swedish National Team, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Seminoles.

Liljestrand attended Brannkyrka Gymnasium High School and helped lead her squad to the National School Championship three straight years. She is a two-time member of the Swedish Under-20 National Team, garnering All-Star honors in the 1998 National Championship season and helping the team to the Polar Cup-Nordic Championship in 1999. She was also a member of the Elite Series Squad, the highest division in Sweden, for three years and received honors for her play in 2000.

"We are extremely excited to have Linnea join our basketball family," Semrau said. "She is a very talented player, in addition to being a wonderful person. Her international playing experience will allow her to have an immediate impact on our team. We also look forward to bringing in another player with championship experience."

Liljestrand intends to major in marine biology. She, along with Genesis Choice (6-2, post, Orlando, Fla.), Jamil Burrell (5-10, guard, Bartow, Fla.), LaQuinta Neely (5-8, point guard, Laurens, SC) and Trinetta Moore (a 6-2, post, Atlanta, GA), round out FSU's 2000-01 signing class.

Florida State will return six letterwinners from last year's squad that went 19-12, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 25. Sophomore Tasheika Morris, who sat out last season after transferring from Tennessee, will also be eligible.
