Florida State Selected As Host Site For 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament

Feb. 12, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -

Known throughout the country as one of the best hosts for postseason and in-season events, the Florida State athletics department will get the chance to shine once again in 2010. Tallahassee and the Donald L. Tucker was chosen as one of 16 sites to host the first two rounds of the 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament as announced by the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to host the first two rounds of the 2010 NCAA Tournament," FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. "Regardless of the sport, Florida State does a first class job when it comes to hosting events and the 2010 NCAA Tournament will be no exception."

This is the second time that Florida State has hosted the women's basketball tournament during Semrau's tenure. The Tucker Center hosted the 2004 tournament with the University of Tennessee coming in as the number one seed.

If the Seminoles, who have been to the Big Dance the last three years, get a chance to play an NCAA Tournament game on their home court it will be the first time in 19 years that they get to do so. Florida State beat Appalachian State, 96-57, during the first round of the 1991 Mideast Regional. The previous year FSU lost to Penn State at home, 73-83. Florida State last hosted a postseason game in 2003 when it beat Florida International in the first round of the WNIT.
