Florida State Falls to Duquesne
PITTSBURGH, PA--Duquesne University took a convincing 92-61 victory over visiting Florida State tonight at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The win upped its record to 6-1 on the season which marks the program's best start ever.
All-America candidate Korie Hlede posted a season and game high 34 points while Kelly Eberhardt poured in a career best 22 markers. Also adding double figures for Duquesne was LynnDee Howell with 10 tallies. Hlede dished off nine assists and added six rebounds.
The Lady Dukes opened the contest on an 11-2 run and finished the frame with a 22-5 spree taking a 51-15 cushion into the half. Hlede posted 19 of her 34 points in the first period. The Seminoles closest reach was nine points (11-2) at the 14:41 mark.
Duquesne sprang to a 7-0 drive to open the second half and would lead by as much as 44 (63-19) with 17:19 remaining. Florida State gained control of its game mid-way through the half with a 19-5 scoring spree to cut the margin to 27 points (73-46), the school's closest, with 6:15 ticking.
For the game, Duquesne connected on a Palumbo Center record 11 three-point goals and forced 32 opponent turnovers, which ties the Palumbo record.
Duquesne returns to action Dec. 29-30 at the Florida Atlantic tournament.
