Seminoles Women's Basketball Falls to Tar Heels
No. 5 North Carolina tops Florida State, 75-58.

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The Florida State women's basketball team fell 75-58 to No. 5 North Carolina in Atlantic Coast Conference action this evening at Tully Gymnasium. The loss puts FSU at 7-15 and 3-9 in league play while the Tar Heels improve to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in the ACC.
North Carolina came out firing, but the Seminoles overcame a 2-11 deficit to tie the game at 16-16 with 5:45 to play in the first half. The Tribe could not take the lead, however, and allowed the Tar Heels to score the half's final four points and went into the lockerroom trailing 22-30.
The first four minutes of the second half was all North Carolina as Florida State did not score a point until the 16:11 mark. North Carolina scored the first 12 points of the half and built a commanding lead of 20 points. The Seminoles fell behind by as many as 21 before they began chipping away at the UNC lead. FSU pulled to within 10 points twice in the game's final eight minutes but could get no closer.
Florida State's Latavia Coleman scored a team-high 21 points, including 11-for-13 from the free throw line. Freshman Brooke Wyckoff tallied 14 rebounds for the second straight game to lead all players, while senior Lysa Moorefield contributed 13 points and nine boards. North Carolina's Tracy Reid scored a game-high 34 points while Nicole Walker's 10 rebounds led the UNC squad.
Florida State will play at Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 8th at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised as the ACC game of the week through the Regional Sports Network, which will air on Sunshine Cable 23 in Tallahassee. The contest can also be heard on WNLS Radio, AM 1270.
