TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the first time since 2009, the Florida State men's tennis team is being represented at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships this weekend. Junior Benjamin Lock and sophomore Marco Nunez compete in doubles at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. beginning Thursday.
"This is one of the national championships for college tennis," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It's a very select group with only 20 doubles teams in the country. We've been practicing a lot indoors and are ready to go. Benjamin and Marco have only lost one match this fall. They've beaten a bunch of ranked teams so it's been an excellent fall for them."
Lock and Nunez, who are 9-1 this fall, open the tournament in the round of 32 against William Kallberg and Stefan Lindmark of Mississippi. The winner of the match takes on Jose Bendeck and Cristobal Ramos of Idaho later in the day in the round of 16.
The duo received entrance to the tournament after winning the doubles draw at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships last month.
