TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Two weeks after starting the fall season, the Florida State men's tennis team returns to the courts for the 2012 ITA All-American Championships taking place at the University of Tulsa from Sept. 29-Oct. 7. Five members of the Garnet and Gold take the courts Saturday morning in singles Pre-Qualifying.
Redshirt-freshman João Gauer takes the court first on Saturday with a first round match against Chris Diaz of Ohio State at 8 a.m. He is the only Seminole who did not receive a first round bye, the rest of the Seminole begin their play in the second round. The No. 6 seed in the Pre-Qualifying bracket is sophomore Cristian Gonzalez Mendez who competes at 1:30 p.m. against TCU's Orlando Superlano. As the No. 10 seed, senior Anderson Reed takes on Jesse Kiuru of St. Mary's College at noon.
Seniors Jordan Kelly-Houston and Andres Bucaro along with sophomore Benjamin Lock play in the Qualifying bracket beginning Monday. Playing in the qualifying doubles brackets are doubles partners Cotrone and Reed, Bucaro and Lock, and Davis and Kelly-Houston.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in November.
