Florida State Men's Tennis Advances To Semifinals in Doubles

Tallahassee, Fla.- Florida State men's tennis made a strong showing in doubles competition on Saturday in both the UNC Fall Invitational and Southern Intercollegiate.

In Chapel Hill, NC junior Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) and sophomore Brad Mixson (Miami, Fla.) advanced to the seminfinals in doubles competition defeating a team from North Carolina 8-4. In singles competition junior Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) defeated Navy's Nate Nelms 6-3, 6-0 before losing to North Carolina's Will Plyer in the round of 16. Cloer lost to Radford's Ivan Salec in three hard fought sets 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Mixson won his first back draw match against Duke's Alex Stone 6-2, 6-0, but was defeated in the next round by East Carolina's 7-6, 6-4.

At the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, GA. sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) defeated a team from South Carolina State in the first round of doubles competition. In singles play, Aubone lost to Kentucky's Will Ward 6-4, 6-4. Senior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) lost a grueling three set match to No. 14 seed Oliver Sajous from Florida Atlantic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the back draw, Bowles won his first match as a collegiate player defeating South Alabama's Robert Hodel 6-3, 6-1.
