Seminole Tennis Starts Strong In Tournament Play

Tallahassee, Fla.- It was a long day at all three sites for Florida State men's tennis, but it was successful as the Seminoles advanced a pair of players at each tournament.

At the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, GA, 70th ranked sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) won a three set thriller against Florida Atlantic's Marc Abdelnour. Aubone rallied after losing the first set 3-6 to take the last two 6-3, 6-3. Senior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) was also victorious defeating Charleston's Mike Boyer in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-1. Freshman Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) made is collegiate debut on Friday losing a heartbreaker 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 to Louisville's Austen Childs. Action will continue in Athens beginning at 8:30 Saturday morning.

In Chapel Hill, NC juniors Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) both were victorious. Cloer defeated South Carolina State's Dmitry Lomakin 6-4, 6-3 and will play Ivan Salec from Radford Saturday morning. Sykut beat Radek Pivonka from South Carolina State 6-5, 6-2. He'll play Navy's Nate Nelms Saturday morning. Sophomore Brad Mixson (Miami, Fla.) gave Coastal Carolina's Dmitry Vlaskin a run for his money before losing in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Mixson will play in the back draw tomorrow against Duke's Alex Stone. Mixson did team with Cloer to defeat a team from Davidson 8-4 in the first round of doubles.
