TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team begins the fall season at the Bedford Cup, a tournament featuring all the teams in the state of Florida. The tournament starts Friday and ends Monday at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla., on the campus of the University of Florida.

Ten other schools are joining Florida State in the tournament including Florida, Miami, North Florida, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, USF, Stetson and Bethune-Cookman. The four-day event features six ranked players including Florida State's No. 100 Benjamin Lock and No. 108 Jordan Kelly-Houston, Florida's No. 17 Bob van Overbeek and No. 84 Mike Alford and Florida Atlantic's No. 105 Taylor Albrecht.

"We're looking forward to going down to Gainesville and competing against all of the teams in Florida," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We take a lot of pride in being one of the best teams in Florida while we're competing against a lot of people we know. It is a great opportunity for our younger guys to make a name for themselves."

Doubles play kicks off the event on Friday at 9 a.m. Senior Andres Bucaro and Lock, a sophomore, return to the courts after winning 19 matches last year with a bout against Gabriel Flores and Diego Soto of Miami. Senior Anderson Reed and sophomore Dominic Cotrone are playing together after winning 15 matches last year. The duo received a bye in the first round.

Playing together for the first time is sophomore Cristian Gonzalez Mendez and redshirt-freshman João Gauer as the team will play against Leo Nahar and Timo Kranz of UNF. Also playing together for the first time is senior Kelly-Houston and freshman Michael Rinaldi. The duo will compete against Jodri Vives and Tianyu Bao of FGCU.

Singles will begin not before 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Cotrone faces off against Salif Kante of FAMU while Bucaro will take on UCF's Jorge Blasco. Rinaldi will play in his first college singles match against Joao Souza of USF while Reed will take on Oliver Pramming of USF. Gauer will also play in his first college singles match with a bout against Albrecht of FAU. Lock faces Jose Fantova of FAU while Kelly-Houston takes on Will Neuner of FAU. Gonzalez Mendez closes is out for the team with a match against Alford of Florida.
